Angel:
I grew up in Augusta Georgia. I experienced a lot of trauma
as a child. When I was 10 years old, Jesus told me that I would
be a missionary and marry a Chinese man. I did not become a
Christian until the age of 22. At age 24 I went to study at the
Bible College Christ for the Nations in Dallas, Texas. I finished
their 3-year Missions certificate program which also allowed me
to spend four months serving God in the Philippines. Through this
school, I also went on my first Mission trip to China. And
in my late 30’s I met my husband Caleb who is Chinese American. I
learned that God keeps His promises. The second half of God’s
promise is to move to the Missions Field and serve God as a
missionary.
Caleb:
I grew up in Fort Worth Texas in a Christian home. At the age of
5, I was introduced to Jesus by a Kindergarten teacher, and I
prayed a salvation prayer with my mom later that night. I grew up
believing that you needed to do the right things to please God. I
did not understand how deeply the Lord loved and accepted me
until I started going on Missions trips. On one mission trip to
Spain, I experienced God’s deep love for me during a time of
worship. I realized that our faith is much more than “doing the
right things to please God”. We serve and evangelize because He
first loved us. God led me study at Seminary at Dallas
Theological Seminary, and I have two master’s degrees.
Our Calling:
For Angel, she knew since she was 10 that she was supposed to do
Missions. Traveling to China helped cement that calling. For
Caleb, God laid a call to the Chinese people on Caleb’s heart
when he was in High School on a mission trip to Mexico. Caleb
fell in love with the Chinese people and culture after having the
privilege to study in China for a year in college.
God brought us together in marriage and united our calling. With
the mentorship of an experienced missionary couple, we felt like
God was moving us together toward ministry in Taiwan.
But we had a few reservations. Angel prayed for God to show her
clearly that this was His will. That evening we went to a going
away party for a friend who was moving to do ministry in
Columbia. While we were surrounded by Spanish speakers, God
nudged Angel to sit at a table of new people. She met a Taiwanese
woman named Sandra. After three hours of talking, Sandra prayed
to accept Christ. And we had the privilege of seeing her be
baptized 8 months later. We praise God that He confirmed the call
in such a clear way.
We agreed that God was indeed calling us to Taiwan.
We hope to assist in church planting among the working-class
people in Taiwan. Currently, they do have very few churches for
the shopworkers, restaurant workers, and other blue-collar
workers. They are all working on Sundays. They make up 16 million
people, with only .5% that know Jesus. We hope and pray that will
change. And we want to be a part of the Lord’s work.
