"We like to talk about Japan’s less than 1 percent Christians as something horrible. But that 1 percent is a story of God’s divine provision—that no matter how bad the oppression is, you still have that 1 percent.”
- “Growth is Good, Survival Is, Too,” Christianity Today, March 5, 2025.
David is a Master of Divinity student at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and is set to graduate this May. He aspires to become a minister, longing to help people of all nations encounter a personal relationship with the Savior and treasure Scripture as God’s beautiful revelation.
During his time at Gordon-Conwell, David has had the privilege of working with the J. Christy Wilson Center for World Missions. One day, while serving at the Wilson Center, he came across newsletters from an OMF missionary in Japan. Through these glimpses into gospel work abroad, the Lord stirred within him a growing burden for the Japanese people. As he began speaking with Japanese pastors and missionaries, that initial tug became a deepening sense of call. Whether for a short-term or long-term ministry, David sensed that the Lord was opening a door to serve the Church in Japan.
This Serve Asia trip carries four key purposes:
- To serve local Japanese churches through evangelistic efforts such as Bible studies, English cafes, prayer walks, and practical tasks like maintenance and cleaning.
- To shadow the pastor of Megumi Shiroishi Church in Sapporo, gaining insight into the life and rhythms of the Japanese Church while receiving formative cross-cultural ministry training.
- To connect with and learn from OMF missionaries and leaders in the Hokkaido sector.
- To discern God’s leading regarding long-term missionary work in Japan.
Ultimately, David’s prayer is that the Lord would bring hope and true, lasting rest to the Japanese people through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
To make this Serve Asia trip possible, I'm seeking to raise $6,000 to cover the full cost, which includes:
- Program & living expenses (67 days in Hokkaido): $3,566
- Flight expenses: $2,131.31
- OMF Intro Weekend: ~$300
If you feel led to partner with me through prayer or financial support, I'd be deeply grateful! Thank you!
