Serving in Cambodia working with the Khmer (Cambodian) people group.
January: Intensive Khmer Language Course - Goal is to move from intermediate to advanced.
February-June: Phnom Penh, empowering youth to disciple their peers.
July-November: Countryside church planting, discipling men.
I believe displays of God's love are clearly seen in Khmer culture and in a deep sense of community. I believe the American church will be able to learn more about what the community of God looks like from seeing how Khmer villagers treat one another. Lack of income, inadequate healthcare, insufficient education, habitual drinking (primarily men), lack of conflict resolution skills and little access to knowledge of sustainable farming are just some of the factors that hold many locals from improving their situations for their children and families. Despite these obstacles locals have an incredible sense of community, adaptability, humor and resilience.
I have worked as an international school teacher for 2.5 years here in Cambodia and I am moving from the apartment my school provided to live in the community with my Khmer brothers and sisters. This will help me better become a part of the community I am serving and will have its beauties and its challenges. My goal is to learn as much as I can about Khmer culture so as to show people the ways God has already shown Himself to them.
I have done my best to minimize expenses and the current budget also includes the finances necessary to help locals improve their businesses or begin miniature businesses since some of the men I will be discipling need improved income to better provide for their families.
Thank you so much for your support!
