Delivered from the Domain of Darkness

December 20, 2018

Mr. B is the village headman. His position gives him authority and respect in the village. But it didn't help with the fact that he was tormented by evil spirits. Night after night he would have nightmares. At times he would see yellow-colored demonic shapes that would chase him into the forest where he would hide. Villagers would have to go out and look for him and bring him back to the village.

Gregory was a childhood friend of Mr. B. Now Gregory is a follower of Jesus and no longer lives in his upcountry home village. Earlier this year Gregory's mother began following Jesus and stopped participating in spirit worship. When Gregory came home he was greatly welcomed and was able to tell the story of Jesus, pray for healing, and cast out evil spirits.

The day he planned to leave, it was raining hard and the remote location of the village meant they couldn't depart as planned. Because they were delayed in the village they were able to visit Mr. B. and share with him that Jesus has overcome evil and has power over all evil spirits. Many people came to the house to be prayed for and Mr. B. put his trust in Jesus. He has reported that since then he has no longer been troubled by the evil spirits.

Six months later, Gregory was in a gathering of Tai Dam, to share together what God had done throughout the year and make plans and goals for the year to come. Gregory wanted to travel back to his village to encourage Mr. B. and to keep sharing with others. In the gathering they also practiced ways of sharing the Gospel of Jesus and helping new groups meet together and learn God's word. Equipped with these skills and with the right resources, Gregory and a friend made the long trip back home. They visited a few different villages. In one village nobody was interested. In another they found people curious but not ready to follow Jesus. But in Mr. B.'s village, the display of God's power had been preparing people. Many came and were eager to hear stories about Jesus for hours on end. Five people said they were ready to follow him.

"He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins." -Colossians 1:13-14
