"Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian..."
"let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that
name."
-1 Peter 4:16
Representatives from a Tai Dam village went to a nearby village to ask them about their beliefs. These Tai Dam had grown weary of following the traditional religious practices of making offerings to appease evil spirits. The neighboring village was made up of people from a different ethnic group that has many followers of Jesus. As they discussed what to do, several people expressed interest in turning to Jesus.
That’s when things began to get difficult for them. Some of their neighbors and relatives were upset. Local authorities made threats and some of the people began to fall away. The pastor continued praying for them to persevere. He also started taking those who remained to travel in small groups of two to four people and go meet with members of our team. The time together was short, but encouraging as our team members shared Bible stories and challenged them to trust the Lord through the ordeal they were facing. They were able to return to their village with portable radios loaded with testimonies, stories and songs and with a New Testament in their language.
Nearly a dozen of them have continued walking with the Lord and meeting together as believers. The first six Tai Dam believers from this area were recently baptized. They’ve asked our team for more materials so they can keep sharing with others, and for prayer to endure when persecution comes because of the name of Jesus.
Please pray with us for these first believers in this area, to not be ashamed but rather to glorify God through their joyful and patient endurance and to result in others putting their trust in Jesus as well.
