STEM school shooting and other news

May 13, 2019

Greetings from Colorado!

STEM School Shooting. The Highlands Ranch STEM School is 8 minutes away from our home here in Highlands Ranch. A number of young families in our church were affected by the events of this past week, and today at church we had a time of prayer for our city, for healing and for God’s peace. The STEM School is less than 15 minutes from Columbine High School, where the 20-year anniversary of the shooting at that school took place just a few weeks ago. Our pastor was a high school student at Columbine at that time, and personally knew a number of the students who lost their lives during that incident. As you can imagine, this is a moving, reflective time for him, and yet an opportunity for ministry as well. Please pray that God will somehow be found, known, and glorified during these difficult days. https://www.denverpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/TDP-L-STEM-Vigil-Kendrick-Castillo-_HHR52161.jpg?w=620

OMF Leadership.  Meanwhile, the leadership team here at OMF (US) just completed an important series of all-day leadership development meetings this past week.  We are grateful for the provision of our new president, James Dougherty, and for the leadership both he and his wife Lisa are giving in the role of National Director.  They started their service on March 1, although they have been missionaries with OMF for some 10 years and therefore bring much field experience with them. Together with the four vice-presidents (of which I am one), we worked together on team-building exercises to help us understand our different personalities and styles and leadership with a view toward leading the OMF team together in the best possible way.  Please pray for our leadership team and for James and Lisa as they continue to learn and grow into this new, important role.

Hip Flexor Injury.  Jan has somehow sustained torn muscles/tendons in her hip-flexor… she is not sure how it happened.  According to a description on the Web, “These muscles and the tendons that connect them to your bones can easily be strained, with possibly severe pain that can impact mobility.  During the coming weeks, we will be traveling and will be very busy, so would appreciate prayer that in the midst of it all, the healing process would continue well.

NW Travels.  Speaking of traveling, the two of us will be in the Northwest for some days starting later this week, and hope to see some of you then.  As our days are limited, we are sorry that will not be able to see everyone.  We also anticipate being able to take some days off, and are glad for the opportunity to attend a Bible conference at Cannon Beach, OR, while on the road..

Thanks so much for your prayers and support!

Gratefully,

Barry and Jan
