The Act of Surrender
The Act of Surrender
Since the beginning of this trip, I have been trepidatious about my role in missions. Is this a short-term thing or the start of a life-long journey? Many fears and doubts have been surrounding my mind. Worries about debt, loneliness, and many other things have taken root in my heart. I have found myself anxious and defeated when long-term missions come up in conversation.
A friend encouraged me to ask God what it would be like for me to stay. I brought this question to the Lord, and He began to work. He placed me in a place where I had the opportunity to see how the gifts and talents he has graciously given to me can be used to serve the mission field. This gave me the courage to bring the question of staying to God.
I sat in my hotel room and prayed a prayer of surrender to God. I told Him that if this is what He wills for me and I follow. I will say “yes” to whatever or wherever He calls. I trust that if God calls me to serve here, He will be faithful to bring it to fruition. I prayed over my debt and loneliness too, that God will show a way and provide relationships. I sent a message to my friend saying I was willing to surrender to stay. She replied, “I was just talking to someone about you and how I pray this for you.” God’s affirmation is never too far away after an act of surrender.
Ministry
This past week will be one of the most treasured memories from my
time here. I was able to serve children with various disabilities
at a family retreat. These are all families who serve on the
mission field. What a joy for my heart! I made so many new
friends and connections on the mission field. Pray for me as I
explore these new opportunities.
This week, our team will focus on preparing a craft weekend
for the families in our organization. Along with that, we will
assist with home-school support. Pray for the families that
we are serving.
