Social-distance International Fishing Lessons
This lovely South Korean family came to the UW for the dad, who is a PhD-holding professor in nuclear physics, to do research as a visiting scholar along with American professors. He became a believer one month before moving to the USA last autumn, and has been a part of our weekly Bible discussion ever since. I have the privilege of getting to be his small group 'host' in our weekly Zoom meetings, which we held in person before COVID-19, and which we hope to resume in person as soon as safely possible.
I also have the honor of getting to have phone conversations with him as he has a lot of excellent theological questions which he is wrestling through as he earnestly seeks to understand the Bible and his relationship with God. He told me that his kids were itching to get out of the house, and eagerly wanting to try fishing, since they had never fished before! So here we are at our first ever social-distance fishing party, eating Korean 'gimbop' (like sushi rolls with ham and veggies) with chopsticks on the curb on the UW campus near Lake Mendota. Although we couldn't even rustle up a bite from a bluegill, we had a good time fellowshipping together along with some other East Asian (dad and daughter) friends of ours.
