Baby Boom, Baby Shower Sharing
When you have a baby boom like we've experienced in our ministry teams lately, there are lots of baby showers which happen. In the old days (when I was younger), baby showers often were female-only events. Apparently this has changed in our culture so that now guys also can be a part of them. When I was roped into helping plan several showers, I started to question if this cultural shift was beneficial - until this baby shower, that is! The parents-to-be wanted a devotional about how parenting is a joyful privilege, not just a burden (as is often misunderstood by our society). The couple also wanted the Gospel to be shared during the shower. I had the honor of getting to share my views on parenting, as inspired and informed by the truth of God's Word. I was able to weave the Good News into the talk, and there was such a great response to the devo that many people spontaneously started sharing testimonies about how the information had impacted them, and also people started sharing parenting advice and lessons they had learned which they wanted to impart to the new parents. I learned that baby showers can be really fun and edifying...
