COVID-19 Positive!

December 10, 2020

So we’re somewhere around day 10 of having COVID-19, and I’m finally starting to feel a little better. Actually, Trinia, Joyah, and I all officially have coronavirus, while Kristen, just to keep things interesting due to her fiery readheaded nature, had her test results come back as ‘negative,’ even though she’s been living in the same house as the rest of us who are positive. Kristen has had symptoms just like the rest of us, so we’re pretty sure she received a false negative. Since we feel remarkably similar to how we felt in March/April when Kristen and I were somewhat sick for 4 weeks with classic COVID symptoms, we’re guessing this is probably our second bout with ye olde coronavirus.

Overall, of course it’s been a little depressing and scary, but we’re very thankful to the Lord, because we know this could be much worse. One of the weirdest things about this virus is how it treats different people so differently: some are asymptomatic, some die, and the severity is not always predictable with risk factors. For us, the symptoms (first time and second time around) have been milder than the flu, but just seem to drag on for weeks. I’ve had a dry cough, lower lung capacity, muscle and body aches, fatigue, and an odd feeling of not being right in my moods and thinking. The best way I can describe it is how you feel if you (like me) rarely drink caffeine, but then drink two cups of coffee and let it wear off until you feel cranky and not right with the world, like you’re either going to pout and cry or bight someone’s head off.

Even though we have experienced quite a bit of fatigue, thankfully we've been able to continue to minister to internationals through Zoom and other online methods. That's one silver lining of this pandemic: God has used it to expand and diversify our ministry to reach and mentor people, not just at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, but even those overseas. Not to mention, we can continue to be in Bible studies, teach classes, share the Gospel, and disciple the nations even while in quarantine!
