Jesus' Power Over Demons!

July 14, 2023

Jesus’ Power Over Demons

At a recent event outdoors, an international friend of mine asked about how to battle some demonic oppression which he was experiencing. I expected many of our other international friends to politely flee this somewhat bizarre topic, especially if they were from other religious backgrounds or unaccustomed to supernatural phenomena. But, on the contrary, as we began our conversation, many of our Muslim, Hindu, and atheistic friends sat down to eat their picnic lunch nearby so they could listen to our conversation about Jesus’ power over demons!

Not only was I able to share many Scriptures about what demons are, but I was also able to share the Gospel, Jesus’ frequent and consistent casting out of demons in New Testament, and the need for a ‘house’ (a person’s life and soul) not merely be swept clean and put in order by casting out any demons, but also ‘occupied’ by the Holy Spirit through belief in Jesus (Matt. 12:43-45; Luke 11:24-26). Eventually we were able to pray with our friend for deliverance. Lasting change has occurred, and he has expressed gratitude for profound changes in the levels of peace experienced since that day, and a new awareness of how to maintain victory over evil.

God warns us in His Word that there will be “terrible times in the last days” due to the majority of people choosing to live a lifestyle of evil (2 Tim. 3:1; Matt. 24:12).  However, on the bright side, the Lord also promises that - in these last days - He will pour out His Spirit on all flesh, with men and women, young and old, and all walks of life experiencing God (Joel 2:28-32; qtd. in Acts 2:16-21). I believe that, today, we are seeing both of these truths being fulfilled. When times seem dark or discouraging, please remember that the Lord is working, pouring out His Spirit on all people as He has promised.
