Life on Life Mentoring
The failure of fathers to be present in their children's lives is highly discussed nowadays. The detrimental effects of absent fathers has reached epidemic proportions. There are many organizations trying to do something to fix this. Kristen, our volunteer teammates, and I, in our own little ways, are also trying to be spiritual parents to many young people through mentoring. This photo is from one such experience. My friend Jonathan and I were able to take a group of young international men up north to Lake Superior, the world's largest freshwater lake (in surface area). Wonderfully hospitable host families welcomed us into their homes, fed us, and invested time and energy in us. Great conversations were had in our minivan on the way up north, during hikes, swimming, at picnics, and around our host families' dinner tables. The Master spent about three years with his twelve mentees walking, camping, eating, training, and ministering together. We strive to follow that example of pouring our lives into others, especially those younger in years.
